Thanks for the post, iha?. If one listens carefully, one can hear the ingrained racism even in this bright blue county west of Portland...not many CSA battle flags here (those are more likely to be seen SE of Portland)...but if one listens. Much work remains to be done.

3. Oregon is blue in the same way that New York is... in the cities.

The rest of the state is mostly red. It has a pretty deep strain of racism running through it, too. Shameful actually.

Most people are really nice though. I love it here!

2. The comments about assumptions about people with Southern accents

reminds me of an old Lenny Bruce routine, when he says that if Albert Einstein had had a Southern accent we never would have developed the bomb.

He even talks about Southern lawyers, and then launches into what a Northern lawyer sounds like to a Southern jury, and what a Southern lawyer sounds like to a Northern jury.

There is indeed nothing new under the sun....
