What do you do re: someone interjecting Fox/rethug talking points at dinner?

Say you are out to dinner with your in-laws and things are going along ok with half a bottle of wine under your belts and someone brings up Obamacare and proceeds to launch into a huge harangue against Obama and the Dems and that person knows we are strong Democrats. a

I disagreed with her but later regretted it and wished I'd just kept quiet - it was a social occasion after all and just because she was rude I needn't have compounded it.

1. Knowing that you cannot talk sense into furniture (i.e., their brains, or facsimiles thereof)

I have simply stated, "I will not discuss this with you," and then change the subject. I have yet to get any pushback.

2. Tricky - best plan maybe something like "we are going to have to disagree about this, but...

let's leave politics out of this occasion" or something like that.

3. Actually, I did the opposite a few nights ago.

The discussion was about Obamacare and the other party started with the SRWTP's. I went on to say that my premiums were going to double from $782 to $193 per month. He siad, "What kind of math is that?" "Fox News Math!" The person who pointed out that 40 million people would now get health care was pretty much drowned out.

Hey - let's not talk politics - this is a fun time. Especially on those rare occasions I know I'm in 'mixed' company.
