Related: About this forumAnyone use a clay mask for oily skin?
I know this isn't exactly a heavy topic but I wasn't sure where to ask. I was thinking of getting some clay to use to help my oily skin. There are so many kinds out there but I was looking at a basic one that you mix yourself. Any experience with this? Thanks!

(19,182 posts)I bought some fuller's earth and there it sits. I had the same idea...mix up some on my own. Let me know if you find a good recipe.

Fuller's earth does seem to be economical. Thanks!
Why haven't you tried it?

(16,504 posts)I googled around and found mixed information, no pun intended.
The first mask I tried I made with a thick layer. I used a small bowl and spoon to mix. And then used my hands to apply. Then I worried about washing that stuff down the drain in our old plumbing. The mask didn't dry and I was impatient so I rinsed it off in the shower. My skin felt smoother and it did help with a small breakout I had.
I went to youtube and that's where the real help came in. Found a person who mixes a very small amount in a dixie cup and uses a makeup brush to apply. I got a nice even layer. She kept repeating how thin you wanted it to be. I mixed with a tiny bit of apple cider vinegar and water. It dried nicely on my face and was easy to wash off. You can either throw the small cup away and rinse the brush or let the rest of the mix harden, crack it out into the trash and reuse the cup if you want. With such a small amount, it will be very economical to use.
I'm going to keep trying it and see if I notice a difference over time.
Try it!
