Related: About this forumHadn't heard this scam before yesterday:
I like the new feature to "turn off" debit card on the bank website temporarily. I had a bit of a sweat-it moment yesterday when I listened to my voice-mail.
This scam was obviously an automated message designed to get the call recipient to respond to their system.
"Your purchase of (X product) for $1,426.42 did not go through on Amazon. Please press 2 to allow this transaction, or if this transaction is unrecognized, stay on the line for customer service"
I only had a momentary "Oh, shit" moment. But no pending transactions on the bank site nor my Amazon accounts now checked twice since yesterday when this happened.
I'm glad I don't pick up unrecognized numbers. Most scammers won't leave voice-mail.
Anyway, heads up. I'm certain it's a scam to get fools to give this scammer your Amazon account access.

(18,756 posts)I got lots of texts for a while saying "We couldn't deliver your package, please call to reschedule." I smelled a rat really fast, because none of them said who the sender OR the deliery company was. I just kept deleting and blocking. Haven't gotten one in time now. now.
I keep waiting for somebody to try one of those grandparent scams on me, like this one: https://www.aarp.org/money/scams-fraud/info-2019/grandparent.html
I have no grandchildren, but if anyone ever tries it, I plan to play along and yank their chain as hard as I can and then laugh my ass off!

(3,392 posts)I do not think that Amazon would place calls with an automated voice. If there is a problem with a purchase, Amazon's first point of contact would be via email.

(3,392 posts)The last one of these which I saw in person was a white one at a car show about four years ago. A nice elderly couple owned it. I asked if it was a 1956 or 1957, as there is no difference in the styling between those two years, as far as I know. The couple replied that it was a 1956, which was the year which saw more Mark Ii manufacturing than the year 1957. A purist might say that the car is not actually a Lincoln, since the Ford Motor Company set up a separate company (The Continental Motor Company) for the hand-made craftsmanship of these cars. Thanks for your comment.

(18,290 posts)..telephone company and Paypal informing me that i need to reset my password. Its easy to spot a scam on email if you look at the return address. Some how i just knew that pattyspoodles@blahblah.com was not really Paypal, my phone company or Amazon. The latest one was thanking me for my 100$ renewal fee to Macafee.
yeah right....
but when they call and I answer ( cuz sometimes Im inna mood to eff with their minds) I answer them in my best demon voice and tell them im rising up from hell to get them and then I leave the phone off the hook.

(22,753 posts)I have blocked so many numbers on my phone that Spam Call appears on my screen.
I also get emails; I just send them to spam
It's slow but it is definitely showing results
The thing I hate is those texts with 20 people on them, because the other folks on the call start replying and calling each other names. I have not figured out how to block the source number of a group mail so I just delete them.
question everything
(48,907 posts)a rep and just put the phone down. Yes, someone would come on the line, waited then hung up. At one point the TV was on so it was clear that no one was going to talk to the "rep."
And this was the end.
I do get them on occasions but that one day was unusual.
Prior to the cutoff day for Medicare we would get calls again every half an hour. Eventually we would just not pick up the phone let the answering machine picks up and. of course, no message.
