Grandma! You're not supposed to swear!

Many young adults think grandparents should be like Aunt Bea and Grandma Walton, prim and proper. They should also be innocent and clueless about sex, even though they gave birth.

When my 30-year-old grandson couldn't believe I would say FUCK DONALD TRUMP, I asked him if he used the word. He said, of course. I asked him for the month and year he would stop using it because he'd aged out of the privilege. He said never. He got my point.

If Janis Joplin were alive, she'd be almost two years older than me. I bet she'd say fuck Donald Trump with a hearty laugh.

My daughter has asked me to watch it around my grandchildren so they won't pick it up, and mostly I do....unless I forget.

But they're getting to the age where they will hear it.

I think your conversation with your grandson is right on! That was a great way to handle the topic.

I only read one post when you used scatological language and it was most effective because you don't over use it.

I used to swear more here than I do now. I guess I decided it was unbecoming, or something.

But now and then someone from my past reminds me of my F-Bomb days, and of course I oblige them. I DO have a reputation to uphold, after all.

He didn't know I was there. This was not that they didn't know how. It was a conscious choice. They chose not to swear around children. My grandmother did not discuss gays around us, though my uncle had a roommate for more than thirty years, and they visited the house for Sunday dinners a couple of times a month, Uncle Jim and Uncle John. They are buried side by side, now. It was a different time.

Cursing is accepted now. It's a cultural change. Fuck, let it rip.

It was probably 65 years ago.
I think grandpa had goosed her in the butt or something.
He was what we called a 'real cut up'.
Anyway, he surprised her or scared her and she said "SHIT, MARVIN!".
Hoowee.

Granny was a strict Southern Baptist and a tea-totaller.
A died-in-the-wool prohibitionist.
I couldn't believe she even KNEW that word, let alone used it.
