(41,730 posts)I turned around and drove back by our house to make sure I shut the garage door. I’m 70. I can clearly remember things and conversations of 55 years ago, but 60 seconds ago, sometimes not.

(1,044 posts)… and I don’t think it’s uncommon to pause our self-image at that age. My mum confirmed this when I suggested it years ago (I think in her mid-50s) and again in her 80s. I’m usually shocked when I realize how old I actually am. I’m still having that dream where I’ve forgotten my HS locker combination and am late for class, fer cryin’ out loud!
As Zappa said, time is an affliction.

(27,591 posts)I had in 7th and 8th grade.
Remember the dreams of being in school, you've been given a test, and you can't even begin to answer any of it?
I'd have those dreams on occasion, and they were always about math class. After I graduated high school, those dreams disappeared. Some thirty years later I took more math classes (algebra2, college algebra, calculus, and statistics) and those dreams came back.
My interpretation is that those dreams are simply anxiety about the class.

(2,201 posts)I can also remember my phone number and that of my best friend—50+ years later. But, like the person who drives back to the house to check on the garage, I have to recheck all sorts of things I suddenly can’t remember if i have done or not.

I don't know anybody's phone number any more because my phone take care of that stuff for me. I do know my daughter's because I got our phones the same day and her number is enough like mine that I can remember it

(23,146 posts)and you are in a big building which ought to have plenty of bathrooms but every one you go into is filthy or has all sorts of strange adaptations of sinks and so forth as substitute toilets. I hate that damn dream

(1,044 posts)That's one I recognize as a dream, at least, and it wakes me right up to get to the bathroom..😜

(20,006 posts)But I'm the queen of going into another room and not being able to remember what I went in there for!
When that happens, i go back to the room I just left and it will usually pop back into my head once I get there. If that ever stops working, I will worry!

(8,171 posts)Im not the woman in the rocking chair looking at the windows. Im not the 50yo running after work and grands. I do what I can and what I can't, I don't. Still caring for husband, driving granddaughter sometimes. Keeping on keeping on. Brain farts and all.
