I seem to remember John Cameron Swayze in a commercial for Timex, but also another guy..have not looked it up.
Seems to my memory those were the days where the host of the show also did the "word from our sponsor" things..ring a bell with you???

On edit...aha!!!
Found this:
The Timex “torture test” advertising was also used in TV ads, a series made popular by celebrity newscaster John Cameron Swayze who hosted the spots. A number of these ads also featured sports celebrities who doled out the tough treatment to the watches and/or supplied an endorsing statement. Swayze also hosted non-celebrity Timex ads in which the watch would be subject to other trials — whether placed in a washing machine or attached to the bow of a speed boat. Swayze had made a name for himself as a broadcaster and became a trusted national personality and a believable pitchman for Timex. For over 20 years – well into the 1970s – Swayze appeared in the advertising series with one kind of Timex watch or another being subject to various physical challenges to prove their durability, shock resistance, and/or superior waterproofing.

found this on a very cool site:"Pop History"

I'm not even a boomer (I'm 40), but one ad I remember well was the Timex watch dropped into a creek for over a year. As a little boy, I though... cool I'd love to find a watch like that! I'll defer the next trivia question to someone better at than me though.

Riggs lost but parlayed the loss into a guest shot on the Odd Couple TV show. Not sure of the year. If this counts as a win, what kind of a car was the Monkeymobile and who was the builder?

Billie Jean King rode in on an elephant.

Billie Jean was 30 years old and Bobby Riggs was 55, according to Wikipedia.

Jimy and Tommy Dorsey..
But, my tv access was sporadic when I was growing up, so I had no idea they had a tv show.
I DO still have some of their music in my collection, tho.
Interesting juxtaposition, the beginning of rock and the fading out of Big Band Sound.
