The Orders Project

The Orders Project is a non-partisan program created by the National Institute of Military Justice® (NIMJ) to assist military personnel in understanding their options when faced with orders they believe may not be legal.

Great show today on NPR about the dilemma and consequences of receiving an unlawful order when on active duty.
The NPR 1-hour show was on from 11 am - 12 noon CST, 12/8/2025. I don't know the name of the show.

The advice was to pick up a phone or go online and contact JAG for consultation, or go to the website listed here.

The problem though is there might not be enough time when faced with an unlawful order. The enlisted get the most heat for this, and even if the soldier was correct to refuse, they often are still kicked out. The military is harsh.

The killings of people in boats was discussed. They laid it all out in detail of how it is unlawful and called it war crimes. (I know we all know that.) I say it is murder since we are not at war.

The retired legal military Colonel and civilian lawyer that works military law both said Sen. Kelley did nothing wrong, yet retired military are watching this closely to see what happens. Retired military have different rules.

The National Institute of Military Justice (NIMJ) is vigorously opposed to Secretary Hegseth's plan to convert hundreds of US military lawyers into temporary immigration judges.
