Defense Department senior leaders have had preliminary discussions about making the COVID-19 vaccine mandatory for all U.S. troops once the vaccines receive full approval from the Food and Drug Administration, Pentagon spokesperson John Kirby said during a Tuesday afternoon press briefing.
Kirby was adamant that the vaccine remains voluntary for now.
Right now its being used under Emergency Use Authorization, which makes it a voluntary vaccine, he said. Should the FDA approve it, then I am certain that Pentagon leadership will take a look at what our options are going forward, including the potential option of making mandatory.
But when a reporter asked him about the Army ordering its commands to prepare for the vaccine to become mandatory in September, Kirby added that the military is already considering its logical next steps...if and when FDA approval comes in.

(27,287 posts)Including a Yellow Fever vaccination when I was being sent to ICELAND! And that's just the one I remember because it seemed so odd. I'd love to find the list of everything else I was vaccinated against.
I stood in line, bared my arm, and walked through the gauntlet of needles and air pressure guns because I had NO other choice.
Given the close quarters in which most of the military lives, mandating this just makes sense.

(2,168 posts)I don't think compulsory covid vaccination was ever in the cards until they are fully FDA approved.

(3,334 posts)So please answer my question, what vaccines did you get that were not FDA approved?

(27,287 posts)The truth is, I'm just not the kind of person who responds well to that kind of inappropriate 'demand', so, let's just move on, shall we?

(17,648 posts)and had to get a slew of vaccines because I was part of the med group. Thats right. All the vaccines the doctors and nurses had to have I had to have too. So I fully expect covid will be mandatory the second it has full approval.
