NZ Herald: "Only 530 semi-automatic guns handed over, police say"

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=12235230

Figures released to Newstalk ZB by the New Zealand Police showed that, as of Sunday night, only 530 guns had been handed in since the ban on semi-automatic guns was finalised in early April.

There are around 250,000 licenced firearm holders in New Zealand and it's estimated as many as 300,000 guns could now be illegal...

... McKee expected most people would comply with the laws, but she said that there was no trust in the system whatsoever among firearms owners, and that people felt blindsided and blamed.

"We are effectively being punished for the acts of a foreign terrorist, and we want to make sure that our personal and private property is adequately compensated when it is confiscated."

The nerve of those heartless bastards! When will they step up and accept their share of collective guilt for something they didn't do?

Did you have in mind?

Also what should be the redress for those who voluntarily turned in their property if ultimately the NZ fails to keep its promise of compensation?

4. Your call for the confiscation
of legal firearms is straight out of the NRA "fear" handbook aimed at selling more guns, but thanks for your concern...
...I'm not sure if you're trolling this Group, or just horribly misinformed.

My only question: Spinning or flycasting reel?

It might be another "let the bodies rot in the street as a warning" answer

Do you have an opinion what should be the redress for those who voluntarily turned in their property if ultimately the NZ fails to keep its promise of compensation?

Max under the law narrows it down to anywhere between a $20 fine to life without parole.

It is surprising to get any answer to a direct question about gun control that actually relates to the question asked. "Do something" or "common sense" is about as specific as one can get. Except of course for "ban them all" which we have been repeatedly told no one is saying...

Yet, we have trump fansters everywhere for whom things like sexism, racism, sexual assaults, hate speech, bribes and payoffs, betrayals... can be ignored. That's just ignorance. An inability to learn, analyze and draw logical conclusions.

Many pro-restriction folk are not much better in a different way. The limit of their knowledge is not much more than which end of the gun is dangerous.

Many times I will quote someone well known in reference to what I believe is a wise or foolish move legally or politically. I suppose some might consider that to be argument from authority but I draw a distinction between opinions like those of a state senator such as Kevin De Leon and those of persons like Washington or Teddy Roosevelt who may have some knowledge of and experience with the topic. Now if someone wants to quote Wayne or Ted just because they happen to have a particular job, are paid for their ideologies and have a mouth that's a bit different.
