...The men were among 12 in South Jersey who were arrested as part of "Operation Stone Wall," which Camden County Police Chief J. Scott Thomson called "a significant takedown" targeting a network that trafficked guns, cocaine and heroin in the region.

The so-called "ghost guns" are untraceable, said state Attorney General Gurbir Grewal, because they don't have serial numbers. Background checks are not required for online purchases of the kits.

Grewal said gun kits like those now outlawed in New Jersey offer the weapons "80 percent assembled," with easy-to-follow instructions and links to online video tutorials for buyers to complete assembly. In June last year, the Attorney General's Office sent cease and desist letters to online gun kit manufacturers, and Grewal indicated that investigations into those manufactures that continue to ship to New Jersey addresses are ongoing.
