The Law and You: When to take away the gun

You may have concerns about a loved one who has become depressed and possibly suicidal.

Your parent or other relative many be showing signs of early dementia or other troubling changes in his or her thinking and mood.

Although that person was totally responsible in the past, now it makes sense to remove firearms from the home.

This column is about circumstances when mental illness may, at least temporarily, disqualify a person from legally possessing a handgun, rifle or shotgun.
