Gun Control & RKBA
Related: About this forumSupport for banning "assault weapons" (aka modern-looking civilian rifles) is now at record lows.
http://www.gallup.com/poll/196658/support-assault-weapons-ban-record-low.aspx50% of Dems and 69% of independents oppose an AWB. It appears that the Wall Street megabucks being dumped into pro-ban scaremongering aren't working.

(5,417 posts)And assault rifles are a subset of that. I don't see how a ban on certain cosmetic features is going to solve anything.

(2,375 posts)When America was moved to believe that rifles should be banned based on the way they look rather than the way they function, I stopped believing that America could THINK.

(16,974 posts)Of course we all know in Sandy Hook, it was not an assault weapon as Connecticut had an assault weapon ban in place.

(18,577 posts)The Michelin XGV. (semi-auto modular black .223)
And what's the most popular size (model)?
75R-14. (AR-15)
The most popular model of the most popular type of rifle sold today is the often misused by criminals.
Following that logic we ought to ban the most often used length of the most often used style of knives used in stabbings.

(12,194 posts)If you expect Americans to be moved by a tragedy into blaming an object rather than the individual that misuses it, and you believe that most peoples minds actually work that way, you're going to be waiting a long time for a train that isn't going to come.
The absence of logic necessary to hold that position, absent a dislike or hatred of guns, is breathtaking.

how would that have changed anything at all? Stock shape doesn't make a small-caliber rifle any more, or less, lethal.

Or if he had used his mother's big-bore semiautomatic shotgun or 9mm pistol instead of her small-caliber competition rifle?

"An inability to actually refute an opponent's argument is a concession that the argument is true."

Now if only we could explain what an assault weapon is those numbers would drop more.

(18,318 posts)...and found the controllers' explanations wanting. Despite he misuse of terminology, the obfuscation of technical points and the appeals to emotion, it has seen through the fog. These data strongly suggest that the influence of MSM, esp. when it mumbles the same arguments over and over, is in decline. Perhaps more fundamentally, the armed civilian population is truly re-arming, as it is wont to do over the decades. Semi-auto weapons, including carbines, are replacing the old .38s and the shotgun standing in the corner of the kitchen.

The only thing worse than that is this guy I used to work for. A co-worker characterized Geoff best and most concisely by saying, "The only he hates more than a yes man is someone who doesn't agree with him."

(6,185 posts)I've noticed a very obvious need by the control "fans" to assure that the source of anything that even vaguely challenges their closely held belief systems is totally and loudly discredited, along with anyone that dares bring it to their attention.
Since their memes won't stand up to any scrutiny, I guess they feel the need to quash and silence anyone that dares to post actual news or facts that counter the tenets of their "faith".
They hate the 2nd amendment and aren't too fond of the 1st either it seems.

(2,375 posts)Glad that some of the lefty RKBA supporters are engaged in actual heavy lifting by constructing lengthy and thoughtful OPs! I've been too busy, too pissed off, and too depressed to do so lately. Just don't have the time and inclination to start & follow what may become a lengthy discussion.
So good onya, D_I_S. I'll breath a bit easier once Hillary is elected, but we'll still have to deal with the Trumpanzees. A daunting thought, to say the very least.
