(16,974 posts)Actions. I do not know how anybody could disagree with around a hundred years of firearms safety programs they have developed and established as a standard. I fail to see how some like you are so against firearms safety. You can always prove me wrong by answering this simple question.
Do you support the firearms safety programs developed and given by the NRA?

(24,613 posts)I've taken some of their gun safety courses, and they are good. Their political agenda is vile.

(6,185 posts)After the Civil War, the War Department was concerned at how poor the Union Army marksmanship was, compared to the average Confederate soldier. (Mostly an issue of agrarian versus urban troop sources)
But several Union Civil War Generals founded it to develop a higher level of shooting skills and generally promote the shooting sports.
Ultimately, it developed the international shooting competitions that are now part of the Olympic games at ranges like Creedmoor.

(24,613 posts)But safety was always emphasized above all. Until the NRA became a lobbying organization in support of gun manufacturers. I'm a member because I can't join a shooting range without a membership. I get the most god-awful propaganda about Obama on a weekly basis, along with requests for money. Beyond the membership fee and safety courses, I don't give them a dime for anything.

But it isn't the only game in town.
There are several politically left of center shooting clubs that host events and hold safety and proficiency training. Hell, want a Garand? The Liberal Gun Club is a CMP organization. They can help ya...
I realize that many people believe that supporting strict gun control measures is a pillar of liberalism, but that is not true. Pro Second Amendment Democrats are more common than you think.
