Homeowner shoots, kills alleged burglar

TUPELO – A Lee County homeowner will likely not face charges after shooting and killing a suspected burglar Thursday morning.

“In our opinion, she was justified,” said Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson. “We will take it to the grand jury as a query, but under the castle doctrine, you have the right to protect your family and property if you feel threatened.”

The County Road 736 homeowner heard noises outside around 4 a.m. She armed herself and went outside and found Gary Sneed Jr., 35, inside of her vehicle. She told him he was trespassing and needed to leave.

“He made a lunge and she fired once, striking him fatally,” Johnson said. “She then told the female suspect to stay put and calmly called 911 and followed all their directions until we arrived.”

The *ITEM* isn't worth killing over. Eradicating vermin such as burglars, muggers and carjackers is completely justified in my view.

I've been a progressive since McGovern. I've marched and phone banked for 35 years.

Someone ASKS me for money, help, maybe even an extra guitar or bass I'm likely to help out, cheerfully. Try to take it by force and the rules change. To me the distinction is completely unambiguous.

It is not YOUR call as to what is a 'Democratic or progressive ideal' for anyone but yourself, you don't get to define that for me any more than I do for you.

I have friends who think as you do. They have a right to regard their property as they will. I have a right to defend my life, liberty or property by any means necessary and will assert that right as I see fit.

unfortunately as humans we don't have many lives to chance to how nice an attacker will be to our bodies.


I suppose while being a progressive, I can't be so progressive that I'm willing to gamble my life away on someone that's for sure not a progressive.

You put your life at risk, especially when you break into someone's home. There would be many fewer shootings of this nature if criminals would stop attempting to take what isn't theirs.

Always interesting when a "morally and ethically superior" poster deigns to come down to the Gungeon and tell us how every good Democrat must behave and think.

And what a gift! Being able to tell, at a distance, that the person breaking into your home at 2AM with a tire iron, knife or gun, really just wants your new flat screen TV and laptop and means you and your children no harm!

That whole "lunge" thing in the story was probably just that poor, "needy" guy tripping on the throw rug.

With that insight, I'm just surprised they haven't picked their winning lottery numbers for this weekend.

Allowing a thief to take what they want and then trust you and your family's lives to their tender mercies is a choice that poster gets to make for themselves and their family.

But not for anyone else and that's where the problem lies.
