When Jenna Fischer was living in London last year with her family for six months while shooting the show You, Me and the Apocalypse, news back home in America seemed grim and continued to be dominated by tragic mass shootings. Her colleagues, Fischer remembered, would quiz her on what was really going on over there.
"They would ask me, Is it really true, can you just go into a store and buy a gun? Why? Why do you allow this? Arent you scared? I explained the Second Amendment and tried to answer their questions, but as the reports increased, I became more unnerved by what felt like an epidemic of violence in our country that didn't seem to affect other countries that have been exposed to the same movies and video games," she explained before attending the Brady Center's annual Bear Awards on May 4 at the Four Seasons Los Angeles. "I started to investigate why that may be."
Fischer's research led her to the Brady Center. "They are a very moderate, responsible and comprehensive organization, and I decided that was the group I wanted to work with," said the actress, dressed in a cap-sleeve dress by Rubin Singer. So she joined a number of actors and industry types at the organization's event, which honored Bill Clinton, Oscar-winning producer Dede Gardner and philanthropist David Bohnett.

The rest of it? Meh.
I just never got this idea that because someone is a good actor, as Jenna Fischer assuredly is, that their other opinions are somehow relevant, even when it is uninformed. I would be more than happy to see her cast in any romantic comedy that I was involved in, but her political views are her own and of no particular interest.

Straw Man
(6,771 posts)... is worth no more than anyone else's. It's not newsworthy, but since she's a celebrity, her opinion will get promulgated by the media. IMO, that's bullshit. I'm not in favor of non-political public figures using the limelight to push their beliefs.

(14,559 posts)When you or anyone else here accepts the myriad of studies that show more guns means more violence I'll give your studies blaming movies and video games the consideration they deserve.
Straw Man
(6,771 posts)I gave you a specific study. Refute it or let it stand. That's the way this works.
If you'd like to cite a specific study, I will do the same. Otherwise, you're just tap-dancing and deflecting.

I post a study that you refuse to address. You refer to other studies, but decline to post them. Then you claim that I "never add anything of substance to a conversation."
The irony is rich, Grasshopper. Priceless.

(6,185 posts)They proudly increase their ignore list every few days to avoid embarrassing questions and facts, they have made a habit of ignoring any and all requests for any facts to back up their random assertions, claiming, "I already showed it" and ... their most recent posts have been reduced to the absurd and trite;
"If only (fill in the blank) had their own gun" (Which only gun grabbers seem to embrace)
And the equally stupid ... "What could possibly go wrong" every time a more liberal gun law (constitutional carry, carry in churches, campus carry, et. al.) is passed.
Then, when nothing happens, they skulk back to Bansalot for a while to be applauded by both regular posters and come back with the same ole tripe. Always winding up with the assertion that we're all wrong and they are morally, ethically and intellectually superior.
That's how these intellectual giants manage to ignore the results of the 2013 CDC study the President ordered but still claim the CDC can't do any gun related research because of the all powerful NRA.
Hell even Bansalot's latest version of a host has disappeared again. You know, the same one that our host finally banned for being a jerk and after he begged Skinner for his own group then posted gun cartoons?
Still waiting for that Georgia body count from the "Guns Everywhere" law they told us would leave blood in the streets .... again.
Maybe the power went out. I guess we'll know if a new poster named 'Mechanical Monk' starts posting anti-gun nonsense.

(6,185 posts)Up here, he could at least lie to his hearts content about guns and gun owners and at least got some feedback (even though it infuriated him that he couldn't shame anyone).
Back in his safe space, they go for days and even a week at a time and nobody shows up.
But one of their little lost lambs has returned, after being shamed out for a while, so maybe it will get weird and funny again.
But probably they'll just get angry. They really just look forward to banning anyone that shows up, even people with a curious neutral stance.

(20,992 posts)In the pre tantrum days the Lost Bubba was responsible for a third of the posts in the group. Now that he has removed his self-imposed ban he should easily be able to account for 50 to 75% of the posts.
It will also help since the missing host has endorsed meta posting whining about Skinner, they have a whole new category to discuss.

(20,992 posts)Apparently alerted on an emoji that a jury allowed to stand. (I agree it is in poor taste) He then went to ATA to complain but Skinner simply referred to the jury. Rather than leaving it at that he ran home to whine about it to his fellows.
A long-lost host came back to endorse the Meta whining and give the stamp of approval to it. http://www.democraticunderground.com/126210569
Apparently the host was alerted because somebody made an sop alert I suppose wondering if whining is considered advancing gun control. It seems to me anyone who would be labeled " One of our resident gun humping assholes " would already be aware whining is an integral part of gun control.

If there's anything that makes us look uncivilized, anything that "makes us scared", it's the medical treatment of people.
I have to answer a series of questions to buy a gun. That's nothing compared to the questions I have to answer to get a cut stitched.

(6,185 posts)I wonder why her beliefs didn't stop her from taking the part, using guns on camera, or cashing her check from the producers?
That would have been a perfect place to make a principled stand.
Just seems odd that none of the many Hollywood gun control supporters ever get around to turning down a part with gun violence as part of the plot line?
I guess we all have to wait for the press release on; "Jenna Fischer (or any other actor) turns down their 15th part in a row to stand against gun violence".

And how do you keep it stored?" It's the same thing if I drop my son off on a playdate and I see a swimming pool, Ill say, "Do you have a gate for that?" I feel like asking those questions is OK. We need to erase this stigma of asking questions to protect our children."

(6,185 posts)Because coincidentally, nobody but rich and famous people ever seem to feel "threatened" you know, by an abusive ex, or a neighborhood gang.
And amazingly, none of these threatened people ever bother to show actual threats, beyond a few anonymous Facebook posts that they might have created themselves.
Funny how nobody ever investigates or prosecutes the threatening people or groups as long as they get their permits to carry?
You'd almost think they were full of crap?

He didn't even try to change the script. All of the buzz words are there in order even, epidemic of violence, internet gun sales, common sense, bad-apple gun dealers... The only thing he did to freshen it up was to add that line about being a moderate organization. Credit where due, that was funny.
