Oklahoma House Panel OKs Open Carry Without Permit, Training

Oklahoma residents age 21 and up could openly carry guns without a license, training or background checks under legislation that a House committee gave preliminary approval to on Wednesday.

The House Conference Committee on Public Safety passed the bill, of which different versions have already been approved in both chambers, prompting the formation of the committees to resolve disagreements. Rep. Jeff Coody, R-Grandfield, said he needs the signatures of seven members of House or Senate conference committees before further action can be taken on the measure before the legislative session is scheduled to end May 27.

The bill, dubbed a "constitutional-carry" measure, would allow those without a felony conviction to openly carry firearms without a license, training or background checks. Those who wish to conceal a weapon would still be required to obtain a license.

The measure is similar to open-carry laws in effect in 30 other states, including Colorado, Kansas, Missouri and Arkansas, according to OpenCarry.org, a pro-gun organization which supports the right to openly carry holstered handguns. Oklahoma is currently among 15 states that require a permit to openly carry handguns, the website said.

Nobody is stopping any place deemed "gun free" from taking measures to ensure that such a place actually BE gun free.

In fact, if you propose that places deemed to be gun free SHOULD take reasonable actions to ensure such a state, lots of people speak out against it, mostly those who hate guns.

Oh, and for someone who carries, you seem to have a poor understanding of whats allowed legally under amendment 2.

IMO no other section of this website is more tolerant of dissenting opinion than RKBA.

I have been spending substantial time (OK it's raining, my outdoor project is on hold) writing well thought out articles to spread positive information about gun rights, and the anti's can't come up with anything better than cheap shots.

OK, so they can cut and paste and put the quotes against a gray background. WOW, brilliant.

Take a look at some of my articles and develop a coherent argument why you do not agree with what is there.

13. When we have people murdering people because they cut them off in traffic or

they have a fender bender I consider them nut jobs that shouldn't be carrying a gun around. I have a CCW myself but I don't need to have a gun on me every time I leave home. I also took a class and had a background check by the local sheriff.
The ones that have to have an open carry weapon, IMO they have a problem. There was a story in our paper a year or so ago listing the local counties and they all had numerous people turned down for the permit because of mental issues. The county I live in had over 100
that were denied but one county had zero. That county has a much larger population than ours so apparently nobody has any mental problems there, kind of scary to me.

in this regard, I don't see this becoming a problem. It isn't a problem anywhere else, why would Oklahoma be an exception? Isn't it the liberal stance that mala prohibita should only exist if there is a demonstrated State interest and be discarded if it doesn't? That is how I define liberal. I doubt Oklahoma banned open carry for the best of liberal reasons. I suspect the ban, like Texas and Florida, banned open carry for less than civilized reasons.
