Is a name change a workaround to beating Brady regulations?

Some states prevent felons from doing a name change, but not every state. Nor do I think there should be a prohibition on name changes, but rather an update to one's FBI file that a name change had occurred and to what. I don't think that process exists.

Good question. Texas allows name changes, but not as a way to end-run debts... Eleanors38 Feb 2016 #1

Obligations and adjudicated restrictions. I think a way of forwarding name-changes to the NICS system, showing the old name and attendant restrictions (if any), should be a part of BG checks. But I don't think this should be part of an "FBI file" unless the felony is federal.
