Domestic violence & guns are a deadly combination in Ionia County

Most of the murders and shooting deaths in Ionia County are not random acts of violence, because of drugs or the result of robberies.

Most violent deaths are caused by the hands of those committing domestic violence.

In 2012, Robbie Dennis killed his wife Jamie Dennis before turning the gun on himself. In 2013, Donald Glenn Lasley killed his daughter Jacquie Osterhout. He is now expected to spend the rest of his life in prison. In May 2015, Harry Towner, 58, shot and killed his wife Deborah Towner, 57, in another murder/suicide.

Later, in October 2015, a 21-year-old Belding woman shot and killed the man she was living with, Eric Harrington, after she said he hit her. Charges have not been filed against the woman. Ionia County Persecutor Ron Schafer said at the time it appeared to be another result of domestic violence.
