The boy's mother, Eboni Alls, was under the impression her son was playing at the park, but instead, the boy went to King Foods, walked up to the cash register, pointed a gun and said, "give me your money", according to an employee who wishes to remain anonymous.
The attempted robbery was captured on the store's surveillance cameras.
An 8-year-old boy is in custody after attempting to rob a Florida grocery store at gunpoint. Security footage shows him entering the store wearing a bike helmet and baggy clothes that were concealing a loaded handgun. He then heads towards the checkout counter and approaches the cashier.

(17,998 posts)He was wearing a motorcycle helmet during the attempted robbery. The mother should be charged for allowing the son access to the gun. She is fortunate no one was hurt.

(1,604 posts)Why did the mother think she needed the handgun? I don't know her specific environment and won't judge her one way or the other without first hand knowledge.
What are the factors leading up to why the kid did what he did?

(17,998 posts)Period. If she is asleep the gun should be placed where the child can't reach it (preferably a gun safe or a gun lock).
The only legal question about the child's motivation for the act would be if she sent him to do it which no sane person would believe.
Given the media I could easily see an 8 year old doing something like this. It would not be a question of bad parenting. I did some pretty stupid stuff as an 8 year old (and even older).
