Gun Control & RKBA
Related: About this forumA shooting enthusiast who supports strict gun sales laws
I find myself caught in the middle of the Great American Gun Debate, disappointing some of my more liberal comrades when I suggest its impossible to eliminate our countrys guns and gun culture, and disappointing my more conservative brothers and sisters when I admit Im in favor of stronger gun sales laws, and that I dont believe anybody is coming to take our guns away.
Of great annoyance to me are those who suggest somebody is trying to take all our guns away, thereby unduly inflating the price of ammunition. You see, Im an avowed target shooting enthusiast with a confessed .357 Colt Python fetish.
Im not concerned about home defense, and I have no interest in loafing around town strapped. The idea of me trying to stand up to our governments $621 billion per year military budget with my pistol is silly and ridiculous. I just like firing guns. But I should also note, I dont see how banning certain guns or limiting ammunition is supposed to solve anything either.

(19,497 posts)And of course, you end your irrational rant with the inevitable penis reference.
What is it with you controllers and genitalia?
For the record, I don't believe a word in your post, I highly doubt you hunt, own a .223 or can outshoot anyone here, but on the internet, you can be anyone you want to, including an internet tough guy.

(363 posts)Frontier sheriffs and genitalia and running away.
Frontier sheriffs confiscated guns? They also returned escaped slaves and hung sheep herders that competed for their cattle baron bosses. Interesting how poster throws the term 'pseudo-legal' as part of their parting shot and yet I'd say a significant number of frontier sheriffs actions could correctly be described as pseudo-legal. I love self debates. Hope the poster returns to resolve this one.
"What's the difference between banning that and banning a semi-auto magazine size or anything g else? "
How about, What's the difference between banning a felon from voting and banning a person of color or female from voting? Huge difference as you get into the details and actual non-Reagan type simplistic solutions with no real world relevance and that only work if you ignore the Constitution as part of a pseudo-legal move.
"And I'll outshoot most idiots who say otherwise." "...irrational pseudo-legal wailing of butthurt gun nuts..." "...need guns to make up for their small packages..."
You know, as this poster said, certain people, including those with anger and control issues, should not have guns.

(20,998 posts)anytime you find yourself in Minnesota. My .223 is a bolt action so if you wish to make changes I will understand.
Now some points:
-your .223 AR is exactly what folks want to ban.
-did we have an RPG or mobile missile launcher problem that was solved with a ban?
-.50 cal machine guns are not banned.
-if a sheriff "confiscated" a gun in ye old west, it was returned when the person left town.
Reading for reflection:
How fetishization of the gun shuts down rational debate about gun control
-no, not the article, just that line. Think it over...

(12,194 posts)Except that home ownership of those isn't actually banned.
Except that most of us desire for people like you to find a way to keep those people away from guns, while leaving the rest of us alone. And people like you are *gasp* generally not interested in so called 'solutions' unless they directly effect people that value their rights to own keep and carry a gun. But you'll still get to keep your fudd rifle right? What do you care...
No we really haven't, and no, generally, we really don't. Even machineguns tanks and military aircraft can be owned, fully armed and legal. You don't know what you're talking about.
A lot, since those other things aren't actually banned.
That's your opinion, and certainly not an established fact.
Stop getting your 'facts' from movies like Tombstone. That ONLY pertained to the carrying of guns, not the OWNERSHIP of guns. On the other hand, when people were released from prison, they were handed their guns back at the gate, in the wild west. Is that gun control you support? How about that there were no age limits or disqualifying offenses? Is that gun control you support too?
Lets just lay this talking point to rest:
Please state clearly and unequivocally for the record, that you'd trade todays gun laws for those of the wild west.
I've proposed that many many times over the years, to date, never a single taker.
Will you be the first? Guess not:
For a supposed 'gunner' you sure are apt at the art of the anti-gun driveby post, and poor at sticking around to debate and support your position. Gee, from whom have I seen that before... If you didn't come to this group to discuss, in line with our SOP, what did you come here for then? Oh, nevermind:
Well, you may not discuss or debate, but you're indeed very good at putting forth your position in a completely transparent way.

Why is that? Not enough traffic in your group?
