However it's parsed over guns, home rule is local rule, not lobbyists' rule

PG Sittenfeld, the Cincinnati Democrat who wants to be Ohio's next senator, wants to help Ohio cities recover their home-rule right to regulate firearms.

That's a brave position for a statewide candidate to take. It's also the correct position, because Ohio's constitutional tradition is that a city's or village's voters, not a lobby-lubricated legislature, are the best judges of what is best for their towns.

Yes, Sittenfeld's plan, which he aims to propose as a voter-initiated amendment to the Ohio Constitution, is a jab at former Gov. Ted Strickland. Strickland, also a Democrat, also wants to be Ohio's next senator. Historically, Strickland was cozy with the gun lobby but now "supports additional measures to address the epidemic of gun violence."

Strickland and Sittenfeld are competing for Ohio Democrats' nomination to challenge the re-election of U.S. Sen. Rob Portman, a suburban Cincinnati Republican.

I swear that some gun control people are so dumb, they can only see about 5 minutes in front of them.

First, if the idea has gun control used to sell it, they'll buy it sight unseen at any price, no questions asked.

Second, it never dawns on them how home rule like this can also be used to control where they are allowed to vote, control schools and the educational curriculum, buy homes in an area, public worker pensions, licensing family planning clinics in the city/county with Home Rule. Or manipulate any number of other issues they don't even think about, in their rush to get a "gun control "win".

Nah, gun control supporters will always be in charge and they mean well so we have nothing to worry about with home rule.

Next time, take 30 seconds to consider the down side, before you get excited and drool all over yourself supporting a big gun control idea. Ask this question; "How would County Commissioner/Mayor/President Dick Cheney/Donald Trump et. al. use that power" when he gets in office? "Will I like the choices he makes with that power?"

It won't be Cheney or Trump, but it could very well be somebody like them or worse.

Or any other rights? Am I correct?

I know you never discuss your cut and pastes posts. I just thought maybe one time you might follow the SOP.

It is far more useful for the masses for the laws to be uniform across the state.
However, there are lots of folks who wrongly think that state preemption of gun laws interferes with crime control.

from locale to locale?
Why shouldn't they be uniform across the state?
