Tulsa state senator wants to revisit "Stand Your Ground" law

TULSA — An Oklahoma senator from Tulsa wants to take another look at the state's "Stand Your Ground" law, because he believes people should consider all options before using deadly force.

"My goal is never to take away people's gun rights, or their right to protect themselves," Sen. Kevin Matthews (D-Tulsa) told KRMG Monday. "My goal is for us to have a safer society, and not have any more excuses to take lives unnecessarily."

His bill, filed for the next legislative session, resulted from the case of Monroe "Trey" Bird III, who was shot and killed by a security guard at a Tulsa apartment complex in February of 2015.

Bird was in his car, and driving away from the confrontation with Ricky Stone, when Stone opened fire.

Somebody might do something, that might wind up changing a law, ... if he can get any other support.

Ummm, but based on the brief description of the incident doesn't sound like a SYG issue anyway.
