Buoyant gun industry sees enemies everywhere

The gun industry is struggling with good times.

Firearm sales are soaring. Gun company stocks are way up, despite a market-wide January slump.

But as gun makers, wholesalers, and retailers gather in Las Vegas for their annual industry convention, leading executives are striving to accentuate the negative.

"Our industry is being blamed and attacked and pilloried unfairly by politicians, media, and agenda-driven social engineers," Steve Sanetti, president of the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), the main gun business trade group, said Tuesday night in his annual "state of the industry" address to a large and supportive audience.

That's all wrong. It's the NRA that represents the gun makers. Inferences to the contrary are just NRA talking points.

They are so concerned and worried about the efforts of the ineffective and impotent gun controllers, they skipped the extra drinks and second trip to the buffet table.

The record high attendance and the "Day at the Range" Monday must have distracted them momentarily.

You copy-paste hundreds of articles and op-eds demanding that the most popular (and rarely misused) civilian guns in the United States be outlawed.

Then without even missing a beat, you make fun of people who point out that you want to ban popular guns.

Which is it?

It's amazing how some do not even stop to consider their own words.
