City's Top Cop Demands Changes In Maryland Gun Laws

"The carrying, transportation or wearing of an illegal firearm in our state is still a misdemeanor," he said.

Davis says he plans to lobby state lawmakers to bump that crime up to a felony.

Will controllers support this proposal? I think not. In 2013, pro-gun groups lobbied the Maryland state legislature to increase the penalties associated with prohibited persons in possession of firearms. Shockingly, the controllers stripped those proposed provisions from the 2013 gun law enhancements to make room for a ban on folding stocks and the usual cosmetic stuff. The controller thinking was that they didn't have an interest in punishing actual criminals. Controllers would rather focus their efforts on law abiding gun owners.

Thats another piece of evidence that destroys their "we just want reasonable commonsense..." talking points.

As I've said before, they're far more interested in the means - gun control, than they are in the ends - reducing gun violence. As time goes on, it becomes easier and easier to show it, because it becomes increasingly obvious.

That's going to lead to a real tipping point, one which they will not appreciate.

While some gun control supporters may want to, national gun control organizations thrive off of the violence. It's sick and demented. But they see violence as fuel for their effort to ban and confiscate guns. Case in point, the 2007 bipartisan NICS expansion (signed into law). The NRA and Brady Campaign supported the measure that Carolyn McCarthy co-sponsored. VPC, CSGV, and other extremist gun control organizations disliked the effort and fought it. Why? It contained rights restoration procedures for people who can prove they've recovered from their bout with mental illness. Gun controllers were willing to give up on millions of new NICS records over a clause giving people access to a rights restoration process. Think about how petty that is.

The first step in a prohibitionist scheme is to criminalize whole swaths of people who were not so before.

Everytime.
