Assault rifles among weapons stolen from Worcester armory

WORCESTER— The Federal Bureau of Investigation continues to investigate the break in at the Worcester Army Reserve Armory on Lake Avenue in which an FBI spokesman admitted weapons had been stolen, but refused to identify the number and types of weapon.

The Daily Beast, an on-line news site is now reporting that at least half a dozen fully automatic M4 assault weapons were among the nearly 20 firearms taken in the break. According to the Daily Beast report, the thieves were able to take away the six M4s along with 10 handguns and several other weapons listed only as "long guns."

Authorities are not sure when the thefts occurred. The break in was reported to the FBI and announced publicly Sunday

Gov. Charlie Baker, in announcing the break in, said all Massachusetts citizens should be vigilant in the wake of the Paris attack over the weekend

1. Don't the banners always recommend all firearms being kept at a government approved armory?

I believe it's one of their "We don't want to ban guns, just make them secure" planks in their control scheme.

You correctly noted they are "assault rifles"; the linked story refers to them as "assault weapons" which, of course, they are not under the general definition used by the various states and the now-long-expired federal AWB.

It is refreshing tthat a strident gun-prohibitionist has finally conceded the difference between Assault Rifles and the media-driven "assault weapon." Confusing the two has been and remains a major -- and unethical -- propaganda component of both banners AND MSM.

Thanks, secmo! Since posting on gun topics in GD appears to rmain wide-open, I encourage you to post this in GD. I will not alert it.

NOTE TO ANY POTENTIAL JURORS: Since the reasons for allowing gun posts in GD remain hazy, and the duration for such postings remains up in the air, and since gun posts of a general nature have been posted in GD as late as yesterday, CORRECTION: as of right now, I can only logically assume that GD remains (as it has for some week/months) open to General gun postings. Hence, my suggestion that this OP might be of value to the DU membership. To that end,

Please read:

1). the "standards" for gun posts in GD

2). and note that the OP in this thread is from a member who is generally thought to be quite anti-gun, and probably doubly-acceptable in GD

3). and review the history of GD and the multitude of gun posts (and their content as it relates to 2) above) over the last several weeks.

I do not think this posting is in any way "over-the-top," or in violation of the procedures of DU, but is instead part of the heavy and continuing flow of general gun postings in GD. I was previously "hidden" as "over the top" because I expressed confusion as to how long guns would be allowed in GD, and whether or not gun postings from anyone were indeed kosher.

Thank you for your attention.

6. Pretty funny SecMo -- your hit-and-run post actually *undermines* your cause.

#1 As others above have pointed out, you have -- apparently unknowingly -- underlined the difference between assault rifles and the Controller concocted descriptor assault weapons.

#2 You've also reinforced the fact the a determined criminal is capable of getting past strong security measures.

Ive heard guns should be stored at government ranges.

Sec mo proves that the government has lax security, and this is a bad idea.

10. Update: Where are the guns? Officials not saying if weapons stolen were recovered

WORCESTER – Officials from the FBI and the U.S. Attorney's Office in Massachusetts have declined to say if the 16 guns stolen from the U.S. Army Reserve armory in Worcester have been recovered.

James Walker Morales, 34, was arrested on charges for the theft Wednesday night on Long Island. He will be brought to a federal court in New York Thursday.

The question now is where are the weapons?

A spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's Office in Massachusetts would not comment when asked if the 6 M-4 rifles and 10 M11 pistols were recovered. The FBI in Boston referred all questions to the U.S. Attorney's Office. The U.S. Army Reserve said the 6 rifles are 5.56 mm and the pistols are 9mm.

BOSTON — A former Army reservist out on bail on a child rape charge broke into a Massachusetts armory last weekend and stole 16 guns, the FBI said Thursday, and he got caught because he was wearing a GPS monitoring bracelet.

James Walker Morales, 34, of Cambridge, was arrested Wednesday on Long Island, New York. He's scheduled to make an appearance in federal court on Friday in Brooklyn, according to the FBI.

Six M4 assault rifles and 10 Sig Sauer M11 handguns were stolen from the Lincoln Stoddard Army Reserve Center in Worcester last weekend. Surveillance video from a nearby business shows a man making several trips between the reserve center and a vehicle parked nearby over a six-hour period Saturday night into Sunday morning. On several occasions, he can be seen carrying duffel bags.
