Gun Control & RKBA
Related: About this forumGun Sales Set Record for Sixth Month in a Row
BY: Stephen Gutowski
The Federal Bureau of Investigation processed a record number of background checks in the month of October, indicating that gun sales were at an all time high for the sixth month in a row.
The FBIs National Instant Background Check System processed 1,976,759 firearms related checks in October. That is a 373,290 increase in checks over last year and a new record for the month. It also makes October the sixth consecutive month to see a record number of checks.
Since every purchase of a new gun in the United States requires a background check the metric is considered a reliable proxy for how many overall gun sales there have been, even though the number does not represent a one to one calculation for gun sales. The federal government and most states do not require background checks on gun sales made between private parties. Additionally, some states request FBI background checks on their citizens who apply for gun carry permits.
So far in 2015 the FBI has performed 17,584,346 firearms related checks. Currently, 2015 is on pace to beat 2013s record 21,09,273 checks.
Gun rights activists have pointed to Democrats calls for new gun control measures as one reason why gun sales have increased. Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton has said that the Supreme Court is wrong on the Second Amendment, that Australian style mandatory gun buybacks should be considered in the United States, and that she would implement new gun control through executive action.

(5,046 posts)We have the president, and Hillary talking about the "Australian solution" on national TV? I wonder if they get kickbacks from gun manufacturers? If not, they should.

(2,375 posts)on who could sound toughest on "gun control" -- invoking, once again, the politically destructive twaddle re. "assault weapons".

(654 posts)and baseball cards from 20 yrs. ago. Was that an addiction? No, I liked to collect them. The bass player in my buddies band has about 16 bass guitars hanging from several walls in his house because he likes to collect them. Serious addiction?

(12,148 posts)it appears to me that the "more guns, more murders" mantra is a false one. Even with the blip in 2015, we are living in one of the safest times in American history, from a homicide standpoint.

(15,396 posts)If I hadn't just put a 500 buck crossbow on lay-a-way I'd have a 300 sitting on top of the lower right now.
But that'll have to wait a few pay checks....besides I need a new baitcaster or two...maybe 3.
Once this AR is complete I don't have any plans on buying anything next year....unless I find a G40 on a deal. I'd really like to have a 10mm again.

(15,396 posts)I turned around and he pulled out two stripped lowers and stuffed them in his backpack. What about me??? He didn't think about me...I would like to have had another lower just to put in the safe.

(21,000 posts)50% were bought by 12 white, old, southern, redneck teabaggers, 21% were bought by 6 racist militia members and buried in the woods for use against the government someday, 18% were straw purchases and taken to Chicago, 8.9% were straw purchases taken to NYC, 2% were straw purchases in the rest of the country and .1% were hunters adding to their collection.
Since we have accounted for 100% of the sales it is clear that none were purchased by first time buyers. Numbers don't lie.
And we know the numbers are correct because tipping point and stuff,

(5,417 posts)So numbers rising can point to an increase in ccw permits as well.

(1,941 posts)2015 has been a great year for 2A rights. In fact, I can't remember a year where we got more done in the state legislatures in terms of advancing gun rights. A truly fantastic effort, and I think we should all expect more of the same in 2016.
The huge sales numbers don't surprise me with all of the industry innovation this year...Black Aces DT shotgun (check it out), Glock 43, Kel Tec Sub 2000 Gen 2, Springfield Armory's XD mod 2 sub compact, CMMG MK47 Mutant, and all kinds of other good stuff that was available for purchase this year.
Be safe at the range folks, and enjoy!
