Gun Control & RKBA

http://www.gallup.com/poll/186263/majority-say-concealed-weapons-safer.aspx56% say more concealed weapons would make country safer
Americans overwhelmingly support universal background checks
Americans split on effect of background-check laws on mass shootings
I almost attached this to the "We've reached a tipping point on gun control" thread, but that one has the backing of Kim Kardashian West twitter tweets and I felt a recent Gallup poll would not stand up to the empirical status of Kim and her followers.
Now maybe it was 61 to 37 percent last year, but we've still got over a two touchdown lead.

(363 posts)You've got to get a lot more voters than trailing 41 to 56 pct (per Gallup) to get either a Constitutional amendment to overturn the 2nd or some form of extremely restrictive gun legislation.

(363 posts)Given some of the heated and over the top, ahem, discussions on this board, I can easily see how you missed my point.
I added 'voters' to the creationist line to indicate that regardless of how strange I find their rejection of evolution, they vote and even with the bias from a right leaning gallup (thanks to Fred for the point) their votes will have to swing several points to win legislation.
While the 51 percent is impressive I go more with the 18-20 pct (going off old memory) of Americans that think the Sun does indeed rise as opposed to the horizon lowering.

(363 posts)As this thread was in partial response to the thread about the trending gun control wave per Kim's tweets, I just assumed the opposite view point would be the 'we' in this case.
You are correct in that a more precise reference would have been that the USA population that believes that CC is a net positive for safety has a 5 three point field goal lead.

(2,717 posts)Democrats 31% think concealed carry makes for safer, 67 less safer
Postgraduate degree: 35% safer, 64% less safe
Non gun owner 48 safer, 49 less safe (parity)
beardown: Americans overwhelmingly support universal background checks
With a centralized data base as well (registration? or with deletion after a few days etc?)
Favor bg checks with centralized data base: favor 86%, oppose 12%.
beardown: Americans split on effect of background-check laws on mass shootings
31% think bg checks would have no affect at all on mass shootings
19 think bg checks would reduce a lot
28 .... " .............. moderately reduce
22 .... " ......................... reduce a little
Ergo, 69% think bg checks would have a positive (good) affect on mass shootings
beardown: Now maybe it was 61 to 37 percent last year, but we've still got over a two touchdown lead.
You must be really proud of them republicans (but your over/under line is way off): repubs safer 82%, less safe 16%.
Gallup likely still leaning to the right wing aisle. A vice pres donated ~$2000 iirc, to herman caine years back.

(363 posts)Funny how you left off that part where 59 pct of independent voters think CC makes things safer. Maybe you've missed the many discussions on other DU forums about the importance of getting swing and indy voters on board. Enjoy your purity testing on the way to losing more elections to the damn repubs.
You appear satisfied with merely using repubs as a punchline for an insult. I'm more concerned with getting their worthless butts out of office.
Gallup trends right? Probably. Do they trend right enough on this poll to give you hope that in the next election cycle or even the next 3 or 4 that you can repeal or legislatively gut the 2nd?
Let's get on board with establishing a stronger and actually enforced UBC that has broad based support to reduce gun violence now that won't chip away at the 31 pct of dem voters and 59 pct of indy voters (per right wing gallup).

(2,717 posts)beardown: So you just threw 31 pct of dems and 59 pct of indy voters under the bus
And over 80% of republicans under that very same bus. I'm not going to worry about it tho. It's a tangential snapshot in the big picture of things.
beardown: Funny how you left off that part where 59 pct of independent voters think CC makes things safer.
I also left out the part where hitler was the cause of wwII. You think I'm going to include everything in a post on here? My focus was on how democrats viewed the poll question.
beardown: You appear satisfied with merely using repubs as a punchline for an insult. I'm more concerned with getting their worthless butts out of office.
False dichotomy, false dilemma.
beardown: Gallup trends right? Probably.
Thank you very much.

(2,717 posts)aug 2014: .. poll reveals Illinois' new concealed carry law, introduced in January, makes a majority of Chicagoans feel unsafe.. Chicago Tribune, 55% of poll-takers said they felt "less safe" with the law permitting licensed gun owners to bear hidden weapons in public.. 15% said they felt "more safe" and 30% said they were indifferent.
http://www.nbcchicago.com/blogs/ward-room/concealed-carry-law-illinois-chicago-crime-tribune-poll-271703771.html#ixzz3pJph0nDQ
Also, just out from cnn oct 15 2015 - 1,028 adults:
(transposed not copied): ... do you think allowing gun owners to carry their guns in public places makes those places safer, less safe, or makes no difference?
Makes public places safer: 35%
Makes public places less safe: 33%
Makes no diff: ..................... 32% #18:http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2015/images/10/21/rel11d.-.obama,.isis,.gun.control.pdf
This would presumably mean open carry as well as concealed, so some wiggle room; but only a third think guns in public make the places safer, as well as a third think it makes places less safe.
same cnn poll: 46% favor stricter gun laws, 52% oppose
