One would think any of the following would be more likely to occur before a student becomes disgruntled enough to pull or use a weapon:

students have been known to do any of the following:

Prank phone calls
Threatening emails or letters
Receipt of suspicious packages
Vandalizing of property or belongings
Delivery of pizza or other foods
Disruption of lectures, classes, or other presentations
Stalking
Following
Gathering discrediting documents
Taking photos of unethical behaviors
Hacking credit card or financial resources
Publicizing slanderous statements
Placing ads or notices to sell personal belongings or property

... These are just a few things that may be done, BUT NO, the first thing that's going to happen is someone will shoot him. GMAFB

for those who need help figuring out what was written:

By reading his letter we can deduce that he found employment at a different school that suits him better. IOW - he found a better job and isn't wise enough not to tell his former boss (or wanted to in a cowardly way) Cowardly, seems to fit.

For that statement to be included in the letter means we must eliminate the allowance of students to carry weapons as the reason for leaving.

The application and acceptance process at the school in Sydney, along with the housing and travel arrangements necessary, make a decision like this a process of time - time starting PRIOR to the armed carry controversy. The armed carry therefore is JUST AN EXCUSE.

This "professor" chose of his own volition to leave, he wasn't "forced" to do anything, he CHOSE his course of action.

Hope the door doesn't hit him in the rear on his way out.

Somehow a single professor leaving his position because of his irrational fear, is not the "destruction of higher education".

Given the apparent lack of concern by the rest of the faculty, including the numerous calculus professors, it seems they don't share Professor Hamermesh's irrational fear of the students at the University of Texas-Austin.

As usual you're firing blanks again.

17. You generally have to be 21 to get a pistol permit

I know you have to be 21 to purchase a pistol.

In the letter he states that he teaches Into to MicroEconomics to 18 year olds. How, exactly, are these freshmen college students going to get a concealed carry permit AND a handgun to carry?

Obviously, the answer is they aren't going to get a permit or a legal handgun. So the "risk" he's facing now is exactly the same as then: murderously angry student illegally obtains a handgun and illegally carries it concealed onto campus to shoot him.

In order for this professor to be at increased risk, the following must all be true:

1) a student pays the money and takes and passes a concealed-carry class;
2) this student then applies to the police department for a concealed-carry permit;
3) this student buys a handgun, probably from a federally-licensed dealer who performs a background check;
4) this student is approved for the permit, which means he has no criminal history;
5) this student begins carrying routinely;
6) this student then gets so enraged about something the professor does that the instant access to a concealed pistol that he has lets him gun down the teacher on the spot.

I'm not seeing it, but then it's been proven time and time again that humans have mediocre ability to judge threats to themselves. This professor is far, far more likely to die in his car commuting to his job in Austin than being gunned down by an angry student. Yet he somehow decides to take a job in a place with cars.

It upsets him and he'll start telling us he's a Calculuz teacher in every post.

The whole campus carry thing is one error after another.

Lot's of posts about "18 year olds drunk at frat houses" and "shootings over bad grades", kind of rants.

Pretty much the same thing we had before CCW was passed in every state. Just substitute "Classroom" for "Parking space".
