(3,813 posts)During the upcoming campaign season, many of us pro-RKBA Democrats will be trying to convince our pro-RKBA neighbors that they should cast their vote for a progressive candidate on the "D" ticket. In some cases (like Bernie Sanders), our candidates actually have a pretty decent record on the RKBA. In others (say, Elizabeth Warren), their record on RKBA is bad, but their economic and pro-choice (etc.) policies are so good that we might even try to say, "Hey, hold your nose right now, and we can fight to convince them of RKBA issues in due time."
But those RKBA swing voiters might decide to check Democratic Underground to help make up their own minds. And here they will see Fred Sanders' blustery banning blather, and all our arguments for voting a Democratic ticket in 2016 will probably be dismissed.
Thanks Fred.

At least they say that when they think no one is paying attention to them. Which, thankfully, is pretty much all the time.

(653 posts)What mechanism do you propose to "come after our guns"?
New laws perhaps, backed up by potential use of force, ie
guns?
If this is the case, you are advocating for "guns as a solution to guns" much like most, in the citizen disarmament camp.
I find the irony disturbing.

Anyone with a Black's Law dictionary level of legal understanding or above seem to get through...a real puzzle.
None yet.
Go ahead and discuss the premise of the OP and I will stay on the sidelines while you do debate and discuss seriously and factually the issue of the NRA being much like the Dixie Swastika...or not?

A narcissist is going to keep tracking every response by the hour because every single syllable that comes out of their pie hole is just so important..
And we can be pretty sure that Fred had the same level of involvement regarding the Confederate Battle Flag that he does on gun control.
He sits at his keyboard searches for cartoons by other, smarter people, and tells everyone else what they have to think and what they should do from the sidelines. Never bothering to get off his couch to actually do anything.
beevul
(12,194 posts)That any bluster about 'ignore' from the anti-gun side, is trickery aimed at getting us to modify our jury blacklists thinking that he can't be on any of our potential juries because he's supposedly ignoring us.
Its not like that degree of underhanded trickery hasn't been seen before from that side of the debate.

(19,497 posts)Fact is -- gun control is an election loser and every time it makes the news there is a gun buying spree in the country.
Fact is -- you cannot disarm 80+ million people
Fact is -- even attempting it would require lots and lots of -- wait for it -- guns

(10,164 posts)You have the sack to actually engage in conversation/debate on this matter, not just insult, threaten, and shove your fingers in your ears to avoid hearing anything contrary to your opinion. Why support someone who doesn't?
Fred Sanders
(23,946 posts)over not "engaging in civil debate and conversation" in the Gungeon...like that ever happens?
The solution to too many guns is more guns....is logic only the NRA supports. Logic so twisted there is no point engaging, Full Ignore is the only logical choice.

(2,493 posts)Is so interested in debate that he only wants to read posts from those who support his point of view (confiscate/ban) and blocks everyone else? Sounds very authoritarian to me, almost fascist. And these types of posts are exactly why Republicans can sell the "Democrats want to ban guns" story, even though the vast majority of Democrats do NOT want to ban guns. Plays right into the NRA's hands.

(15,396 posts)branford
(4,462 posts)Fred, do you realize that the Confederate Flag has not been banned or even regulated anywhere in the USA. That would be an unequivocal violation of the First Amendment. All that has happened is that some statehouses have voluntarily (and commendably) chosen not to fly the flag along with the American Flag and their state flags (although some of those state flags still have the Confederate Flag incorporated within their design).
If your cartoon was actually a representation of the extent of gun control advocacy, congratulations, you can declare victory and go home. Firearms are already prohibited or highly restricted in most statehouses and government buildings, all without much objection from firearm owners.
However, if your intent is to "ban" or banish the NRA, from statehouses or the general public, you'll need to repeal both the First and Second Amendments. Good luck with that...
ileus
(15,396 posts)Doesn't matter anyway....he has all the "false" pro2A democrats on ignore.
branford
(4,462 posts)Sadly, far too many of our own party ignore or scorn other Democrats who don't believe the 2A is some abomination in the Bill of Rights. They fail to understand that such an intransigent attitude has hurt the party politically for over a generation, everything from the extreme electoral losses that resulted from the now expired Assault Weapons Ban to more recent losses where Republicans now totally dominate the South and much of the Midwest, including a clear majority of seats in Congress and control of state governments.
Gun control is not only an big electoral loser with a majority of the population, it has effectively prevented broader progressive legislation for decades. No amount of cartoons or complaints about NRA "talking points" change this inescapable fact.

Rather ingrateful, I'd say.
