DEA agents raided three Los Angeles medical marijuana dispensaries Wednesday afternoon, according to a preliminary report from Americans for Safe Access California director Don Duncan. More details were not forthcoming by press time.
According to Duncan, the DEA struck LA Wonderland on West Pico Boulevard, DTPG on South Hill St. near downtown, and the Iron Works in Venice.
The federal government has unleashed the DEA on dispensaries under both the Bush and the Obama administrations, although there was a respite between 2009 and late 2011, when the Justice Department had a policy of generally leaving them alone. But that policy shifted again in 2011, and both the DEA and federal prosecutors have been busy going after dispensaries since then. One Southern California dispensary operator, Aaron Sandusky, was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison just this Monday.

(45,358 posts)Were they selling to non-medical card holders? Were they legit at all?
Sure would be nice if a single one of these articles bothered to mention any detail whatsoever, but they never do.
DU isn't a fact-free zone like Faux.

(841 posts)This flies in the face of even the local officials in L.A as they presently discuss how to permit and open 100 new Dispensaries. At the same time New measures will be on the next Election Ballot too..
I call it a full Court Press by the Feds as they continue the Raids today..

(4,576 posts)I can say that none of the medical marijuana clinics I saw there looked "legit". There's just something about the sight of barkers in day glow green hospital scrubs waving people in off the beach...know what I mean?

(14,138 posts)When you read the charging papers, these "medical marijuana dispensaries" that get busted are really just a facade. One guy here they busted had $600,000 in cash in the trunk of his Mercedes and his "dispensary" routinely had loud music inside you could hear a block away at 3 AM with lots of apparently healthy people coming and going.
It seems the DEA is focusing on these charlatans which, until the law is changed as it was in Washington and Colorado, seems reasonable to me.

(80,708 posts)I don't think we should be paying to incarcerate one of these "dangerous" non violent pot sellers in Federal Prison for 10 years, likely letting rapists and murderers out so we can have cell room for him, next to the chemo-sick pot smoking cancer grannies we're filling our prisons with.
It's pathetic. The stupid war on pot is a waste of time, and the Feds ought to have actual criminals they should be worrying about.

(45,358 posts)If you don't, you're simply talking out of your ass. Do you care about the truth at all?
The article says nothing about who initiated these raids and for what reason. Yet you have no problem blaming the Obama administration and calling them "cruel" with zero facts. It's pathetic.
