Certainly makes sense to me. I say legalize it in U.S. as well.
"Uruguay could become the first country in the world to sell marijuana to its citizens as it attempts to fight a growing crime problem. Under the plan, only the government would be allowed to sell marijuana to adults who have registered on a government database - letting officials keep track of their purchases over time.
Minister of Defense Eleuterio Fernandez Huidobro said the measure aims to weaken crime in the country by removing profits from drug dealers and diverting users from harder drugs."

It would be WAY too smart of a thing to do, for Rmoney
to even consider it.

not sure how good of a point it is, but it is a point: i.e.
that gov't is just replacing criminal thugs & druglords.
But at least Gov't gets the revenue -- like for saving SS
& Medicare, food stamps, etc. -- not druglords.
Right now in the US, government controls and profits
to some extent off of sale of booze, and that has worked
fairly well; if anything there's TOO MUCH booze out there
complicating and ruining people's lives.
Plus, people can and do make their own brew if they like.
Not that these two substances are equivalent. They are
not. Cannabis is MUCH safer and healthier to use than
booze. It is being found to heal cancer for Christ sake.
So, to sum up: I actually agree that what you desire is
the sanest way to deal with it; however I'd put the chances
of this actually ever happening in our lifetimes at about
the same as me winning the Powerball this week.
