Drug Policy
Related: About this forumShould marijuana be legal? Why or why not?
I was pleasently surprised that two states legalized marijuana use the last election. And not just medical, but personal use for adults. I didn't think I'd see it but I think it's the right move for a number reasons. Contrary to the myth, marijuana has not been shown to be a gateway drug and the savings in arresting and incarcerating users of this drugs would save millions.

(45,358 posts)Cannabinoid supplementation is required by many people to keep their immune systems functioning at full capacity.
And it shrinks tumors.
It's a crime that it remains illegal.
Mimics endo version so well there are no issues with its use. It interacts with no other drug. Most drugs can't say that.

(1,695 posts)I actually get bored explaining why it should be legal. I've never even personally met anyone who is vehemently opposed to pot. I honestly just don't get it.

(28,784 posts)because, as far back as the 1940s, scientists and politicians have been talking about the lies that created governmental reefer madness.
because those who voted for the law didn't even know what they were voting for.
because Anslinger said the main reason for prohibition of marijuana was to control "the degenerate races."
because Nixon ignored the DEA counsel's recommendation to decriminalize because he wanted to be able to punish political enemies. This is no basis for sound law.
because marijuana prohibition is a violation of civil rights and is the prime example of the racist application of the law in America.
because the war on cannabis is a waste of taxpayer dollars.
because Reagan's War on Drugs was an excuse to illegally fund terrorists.
I just have to assume that anyone who favors criminalization of marijuana, at this point, is a tool or an idiot.
The Marijuana issue is the perfect cloud to the real issue. Who wanted Hemp made illegal? Why, paper and cotton, of course. And wants Hemp illegal now? Nobody owns up.

OVER-POLICING
Between 2001 and 2010, there were over 8 million pot arrests in the U.S. Thats one bust every 37 seconds and hundreds of thousands ensnared in the criminal justice system.
WASTED TIME AND MONEY
Enforcing marijuana laws costs us about $3.6 billion a year, yet the War on Marijuana has failed to diminish the use or availability of marijuana.
STAGGERING RACIAL BIAS
Marijuana use is roughly equal among Blacks and whites, yet Blacks are 3.73 times as likely to be arrested for marijuana possession.
After you read that, you can read The New Jim Crow, by Michelle Alexander.

There is nothing wild about those accusations.
If you are on this site and racking up points in small forums like this one to troll here - you're already pretty sloppy.
go do your homework, Malcolm, and then you can make claims.
