'Shoot them in the back of the head': Evangelical preachers ratchet up anti-LGBTQ hate rhetoric

Evangelical preachers have begun transforming the recent mania associating the LGBTQ community with pedophilia into demands for genocide.

“Every single homosexual in our country … should be lined up against the wall and shot in the back of the head!” insisted one recently.

“Put them to death. Put all queers to death. They die,” proclaimed another, adding: “When they die, that stops the pedophilia. It’s a very, very simple process.”

The genocidal rhetoric based on the false pedophilia link being whipped up against the LGBTQ community—particularly heading into June with its multitude of Pride events around the nation—has already fomented ugly anti-LGBTQ protests by white nationalists outside Pride gatherings and threats by far-right “Patriot bikers” to bring guns to others.

Among some Evangelical Christians, this has served as a green light to embrace a hateful interpretation of biblical scripture—one originally promulgated by the white-supremacist Christian Identity movement—to demand they be put to death.

And of course, living proof that Sinclair Lewis' warning that 'when Fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross' was spot on.

If people believe they are doing something in the name of God or by "divine right", they're less worried about consequences.

The theocracy is coming. Once the confidence in our elections and legal systems have failed and people believe they are not against the law but above the law, it's all done.

If other RW pastors are anything to go by, he probably in fact already gets them every now and then.

One wonders how much of J. Edgar's influence still governs those decisions at the Bureau.

(ironically enough)

Though, yes - if Apartheid Elon gets his way, Awes and his ilk will have a home in Twitter again.

There is a new and concentrated, coordinated campaign on the Right to go after LGBTQ.

Wonder who is coordinating this? I wonder who is paying the bills?

And it didn't originate with the white supremacist movement. It started with the book they follow. Death to homosexuals is what the Torah says, quite clearly: "If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them." Leviticus 20:13.

My Hebrew is definitely rusty, but it's still good enough to know that the King James translation gets this verse right (granted in antiquated 16th/17th century English). No wriggling free by claiming it's taken out of context.

It's not.

And before anyone tries the "but that doesn't apply anymore because the new guy changed it all!" Get ready for a red letter verse that puts the lie to that claim:

"For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled." Matthew 5:18. Meaning laws like Levticus 20:13 are in effect until I guess that Judgment Day thing that's supposed to come any day now, or so we've been told for the past 2000 years. What law did you think he meant? Roman law?

Face it: The fundigelicals aren't wrong about what their book says, or what their deity expects. Not with this. Maybe some other parts, people can tap dance about what it's trying to say, but not in this case.

So it's not a hateful interpretation. It's the only interpretation possible, because that verse is 100% crystal clear about what it's saying and what it demands.

This is why I'm a lapsed Jew. I couldn't reconcile the hateful, inhumane parts of the halacha with the good I believed in. I'll take my chances with a long stay in Gehinnom, but I will not follow anything or anyone telling me to kill consenting adults for who they love, and how.
