Discussion in LBN thread for an activism project....

Hi there! NoJusticeNoPeace and I started a conversation here: http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1014&pid=1051769 about the possibility of building a website to drive boycotts and activism around all the whacko Indiana-type laws that seem to be cropping up.

I'm very willing to participate in this, but I'm not a pro in website design or management by any stretch of the imagination. Some quick research has shown that there are no active websites using the names boycottindiana.com or bigotryboycotts.com, for example.

Anyone with expertise or interest in getting something like this off the ground?

minimal amounts at first

If anyone wants to help us who is expert in this, let us know, thanks.

My main idea was a place where people could go and coordinate protests of businesses actively denying civil rights to fellow americans

we show up, in numbers, often, etc. all over the country where it is applicable

Awhile ago. But it wasn't specific to LGBT matters.

My idea was an app that would allow for notifications, planning, etc So people would sign up and then when something was happening in their area, a blast text or whatever, would go out to everyone in that area.

It would also have different levels in the app. Planners, participants, etc.

But I have no money and absolutely no zero computer/programming knowledge.

I am willing to try to help. It's an important thing to do. Especially when people will start paying more attention with the 2016 election process starting, summer coming, and these awful bills starting

Your post made it clear that the effort would probably require both a webpage and a mobile app to be really effective. I also have no experience in developing apps of that sort. My webpage-creation ability is not horrific, but it's not good either. Managing it after it's created is something I'm not equipped to do from a technical standpoint. Your idea, though, is very much in line with what we were thinking - coordination of locations, notifications, outreach, etc.

Until we can find someone with the necessary technical expertise to play with us, it seems that DU, Facebook, and Twitter are still the best places to get the word out.

But Bravenak has some experience. Maybe she could help. That's why I was talking to whomever it was I was talking to about this. They were web/app designer. But they got kicked out of DU. I think it was Israel/Palestine stuff.

Especially before any conversation about them!

If she's inclined, I'd be more than happy! The more, the merrier. I have a feeling that a project of this scope will require more than two or three people to pull off.

Oh, I will talk to her. She won't do it if she doesn't want to or doesn't have the time, etc. She is one strong woman!

Will probably kick this thread later in the evening to get a few more eyeballs on it, too. Kind of quiet around here on Saturday afternoons.

with the title "Equality for All" and the facebook web address of:

www.facebook.com/equalityforallactivism

There's nothing there yet but the placeholder. More than willing to work with anyone on how to use this page to get things moving.
