Keep government out of our bathrooms

... You look at the men's room and see no line. Are you willing to risk it? If on your way out, you find a man waiting, you might get a dirty look.

And if a Florida lawmaker gets his way, you would get arrested and spend up to a year in jail.


A bill filed last week by state Rep. Frank Artiles, R-Miami, isn't meant to target folks who make hasty use of the wrong bathroom or mistakenly push the wrong door, which is easy to do these days with all the artsy bathroom signs used to denote men and women.

Rather, his "Single-Sex Public Facilities" bill is part of a national trend to criminalize transgender people who, as they transition into the sex they were meant to be, use the restroom that matches how they're dressed ...
