Students in every ND public school, along with every public school in the US, also have the right not to recite the Pledge of Allegiance.

Students in every ND public school, along with elected governing bodies and those who attend their meetings, should have the opportunity to recite the Pledge of Allegiance. We're working with lawmakers to bring forward legislation to make it happen.

If there is any fixed star in our constitutional constellation, it is that no official, high or petty, can prescribe what shall be orthodox in politics, nationalism, religion, or other matters of opinion or force citizens to confess by word or act their faith therein. It is a scrap of cloth, a symbol that has a very subjective meaning to each of us. For me, there is no creator god under which it stands. There also is no liberty and justice for all, although that is a noble goal, which many of us strive towards. We ain't there yet.

I do stand respectfully, when others say the pledge.
