With Roe gone, states rush to criminalize not only abortion, but 𝗧𝗔𝗟𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗚 about abortion.

The First Amendment Retweeted

With Roe overturned, some states are rushing to criminalize not only abortion — but 𝗧𝗔𝗟𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗚 about abortion.

Here’s what you need to know. 🧵

12/ Even on the hypothetical assumption that speech about abortion could be barred in a state where abortion is illegal, such a bar could not extend to states where abortion remains legal. (See 1975’s Bigelow v. Virginia.)

and other global warming related environmental calamities will ultimately precipitate violence. I have to think the “evangelicals” see, know and rejoice in this, viewing it as end-times.

Fuck them.

3 known radical House members have filed a bill to criminalize assisting someone to go out-of-state to get an abortion, even by having a website available to state residents that gives advice on travel or pills.
They were asked about 1st Amendment problems, and their answer was that the bill didn’t have a chance to pass anyway - they just want to begin “testing the limits.”
They are being roundly mocked for their actions. Even a top GOP state official noted that it was “dangerous” for legislators to propose laws that they know to be illegal.

ballerina outfit. I'm going downtown and, while sprinkling glitter everywhere, I'm going to say over and over, "abortion, abortion, have yourself an abortion!" I wonder how many charges I'd get.

I’m down for civil disobedience but glittering is my bridge too far. Otherwise I would be glad to join you in holding up a cartoon cutout speech bubble that reads “Abortion!” and accompany the ballerina. Hell, I would even wear a rainbow tutu.

But no glittering.

I guess I could throw Mardi Gras beads. I know those are allowed down here. Glitter isn't mandatory, I guess.

The average age of an OB GYN is 51. Young medical school graduates with OB GYN interest do not want to practice in these hostile state environments and they have their choice of states that can provide care for all women. These hostile healthcare states are going to bring unrelenting pain and anxiety to their citizens.
Cruelty is the point.

It should be required viewing in every high school!

"What the Constitution Means to Me" should also be a required civics lesson.
