a firm selection policy in place? Library policy should include things like The Library Bill of Rights and the Freedom to Read statement. It should state who selects and removes material. It should not be the board or the pubic.
The Dixon Public Library in Dixon IL is going through a similar battle right now. A group called Catholic Vote is working with the little brownshirts (Young America's Foundation) who are managing the Reagan Home museum and with a hate group at Sauk Valley Community College. Dixon is the hometown of Reagan. The YAF people would like to make Dixon the mecca for all this hate BS. This is in a red area, but there is plenty of strong opposition to firing the library director and getting rid of the LGBTQ materials. The community had a gay pride event that was well attended and wonderful.
I don't live in Dixon, but I am only a few miles away. I use the library. I belong to a Democratic advocacy group that meets in Dixon. Several counties are represented in this group. It might be a tough battle, but I don't think these haters will win.
People from out of state have come here to stir up trouble. They should not get a say.
If you are interested, Google "Catholic Vote." Google "Young America's Foundation." Google "Catholic Vote in Dixon IL." They did something called Hide the Pride. I don't remember the name of the local hate group at Sauk Valley College who is trying to coordinate all this. My group may have to help get them declared a hate group. They have tried to send moles to my group's meetings. Our membership is by invitation only. They are told to leave.
Why is it always the library first?
