Gov. Don Siegelman being re-sentenced today....

http://www.leftinalabama.com/diary/221/

It's been suggested for some time that Don Siegelman was getting the Susan McDougall treatment...

In McDougall's case, the judge wanted to make her life miserable enough that she would cooperate and come up with something incriminating on Bill Clinton. Don Siegelman has already been convicted, so any special 'worse than usual' treatment seems like gratuitous meanness. But moving him often and putting him in distant prisons would make it hard for his legal team to stay in touch and probably slow down their progress on the appeal. The extra distance makes the process more time consuming, difficult and expensive for the Siegelman team.

"The U.S. Supreme Court recently refused to hear Siegelman and co-defendant Richard Scrushy's final appeals.

In 2007, both Siegelman and Scrushy were sentenced to about 7 years in prison for their federal bribery conviction connected to Scrushy's donation to Siegelman's lottery campaign fund.

The 11th Circuit Court of Appeals eventually overturned two of the charges against both men.

Scrushy was re-sentenced in January and Judge Fuller knocked a year off his punishment.

He is set to be released from federal prison on July 25, 2012."http://www2.alabamas13.com/news/2012/jun/20/don-siegelman-re-sentencing-set-august-3rd-ar-4010005/
