Le plus célèbre monument parisien, la tour Eiffel, va bientôt changer dallure. Face à la menace terroriste, la grande dame de fer doit être plus sécurisée. Depuis les festivités de lEuro 2012 déjà, une clôture provisoire entourait le parvis du monument.
Le provisoire va finalement virer au permanent. Les barrières installées depuis le mois de juin assez peu esthétiques vont être remplacées dans le courant de lautomne par un mur de verre. « Une clôture antiballes qui englobera lessentiel des jardins de la tour Eiffel », a indiqué Bernard Gaudillère, président de la Société dExploitation de la tour Eiffel aux élus siégeant au Conseil de Paris. Une « clôture de sécurité » qui devrait coûter 20 M et sélever, selon nos informations, à 2 m50 de haut.

I can't imagine a glass wall stopping much of anything but honest tourists.

(15,703 posts)2. Doesn't say but I'm guessing half an inch or so.
The good news is that at least they're using glass and not plastic which looks crummy instantly no matter how artistically it's assembled. I remember riding up the exterior escalators at the Beaubourg back when you didn't need to buy a ticket and thinking how great the views would have been if they hadn't enclosed them in plexiglass which at that point was practically opaque.
On the other hand glass can get crummy pretty fast too in which case I wouldn't expect this particular innovation to last very long . . .

The Eiffel Tower itself is dirty. You can see litter and cigarette butts on the landings when you look down.
