10th Mountain Division, Narrated by Representative Jason Crow

Jul 15, 2026 #WeAreAmerica250

United States Congressman Jason Crow of Colorado is a former paratrooper and Army Ranger who earned a Bronze Star during the invasion of Iraq. Crow explains how the 10th Mountain Division fought heroically in World War II and helped to develop the American commercial skiing industry.

250 to 250

From the time of our country’s founding 250 years ago, the story of America has been one of the constant efforts of Americans—from all races, ethnicities, genders, and abilities—to make real the belief that we are all created equal and have a right to have a say in our democracy. We will be telling their stories over the next several weeks because now, as ever, “We Are America.”

was originally assigned to the 10th Mtn Division. He grew up in the upper peninsula and had some experience skiing.

Somehow, they missed the fact that he wore glasses (and had since he was a little kid) and he was pretty quickly reassigned.

He ended up teaching at NYU and I often wonder how different our family history would have been.

I went through the Army Mountain Warfare School, run by my National Guard battalion in Vermont, and also spent a month training with the Alpini troops in northern Italy. Climbing the Alps on skis all day for a great run back down the mountain at the end, lol.
