The Iran hostage crisis was a diplomatic standoff between the United States and Iran. Fifty-two American diplomats and citizens were held hostage for 444 days from November 4, 1979, to January 20, 1981, after a group of Iranian college students belonging to the Muslim Student Followers of the Imam's Line, who supported the Iranian Revolution, took over the U.S. Embassy in Tehran.

1. IMO, this was predictable.

"The Revolution" used the excuse of the Shah being treated in the U.S. In reality, it was a response to the Shah repressing and persecuting Islamic groups in Iran and a demand by these groups to govern the country.

But after Khomeini was seen in a cult of personality, it was inevitable that the masses would see him as a savior. (Sound familiar?)

Khomeini's lectures were disseminated by way of tapes under the radar of the Shah, the Iranian government, and sadly, our government.

Timeline:
January, 1979: The Shah left Iran for medical treatment, never to return.
February, 1979: Khomeini returned to Iran.
November, 1979: Storming of the American Embassy.
