Pvt. William Loop & father, Cpl. Roderick Loop, bid farewell to each other. Anzio, March 6, 1944.

This one keeps falling through the cracks. It shows up at this time of year due to Father's Day. Maybe I'll get it right next year.

Pvt. William Loop & his father, Cpl. Roderick Loop, bid farewell to each other as Cpl. Loop is transferred stateside from the fighting in Anzio. Both men served in the 191st Tank Battalion together and both survived the war. 🪖

Happy Father’s Day weekend 🇺🇸

and especially in his eyes. I can only wonder what he said to his son as he left him to fight on, knowing the horrors that might lie ahead. Very powerful photos.

Corporal Roderick R. Loop saying goodbye to his son, Pvt William R. Loop, during WWII,
6 mars 1944 Anzio, Rome, Lazio, Italie

This photo, taken on March 6, 1944, in Anzio, Italy, shows Corporal Roderick R. Loop saying goodbye to his son, Pvt William R. Loop. During WWII, father and son joined the U.S. Army together, and both became members of the 191st Tank Battalion. Side by side, they bravely confronted German forces, until March 1944, when Roderick had to leave Italy. Despite facing death on many occasions, father and son both survived the war. Roderick, who also served his country during WWI, passed away on March 5, 1969. His son William, who also fought in the Korean War, died on December 19, 2008.
