I didnt watch this one yet but theres circumstantial evidence that RAF bombers dumping their bombs in the channel could certainly account for his disappearance. If the mission was called off for any reason it was standard practice to jettison bombs before returning to base.

Design in the 80s though they didnt take any pictures and were advised to leave it where it was. Too bad, nowadays someone would have their cell phone camera and record it. Doesnt sound like well ever know for sure.
