Kind of a mundane film of a very complicated and labor intensive process at a factory in Philadelphia in WWII. Note how the workers have no safety glasses, use spray paint and lacquer with no breathing masks, no gloves with all those metal edges, rinse and wash processes throwing liquids all around, I think it says 1000 shells in an 8 hour shift.
Amazing they even made a film of this, and that it still exists.

(11,780 posts)I was just reading about proximity fuses the US developed for AA artillery. Dont know if it went down to 3 size. For awhile they wouldnt let the army use them because they were afraid the nazis would collect a dud and figure out how to make them so for a long time only the navy could use them. They were first used, to dramatic effect, during the battle of the bulge. Theyd set the artillery to air burst above German soldiers who were afraid to get out of their Fox holes.

Why hasn't there been a call for citizens to help make masks for their doctors & nurses - for example?
They can't make N95 level but home made masks are significantly better protection than nothing.

Even the gesture would help lift the spirits of medical folks in the trenches.
