Why the GOP is ideologically no longer the Party of Lincoln

Often times, while I'm on social media I come across memes that mention something along the lines of "Republican Party votes for 13th Amendment in Senate chamber: 38. Democrats: 2. Now which party is the racist one?" But what these simpletons fail to realize is the ideological realignment of the parties and the fact that they're surely not static. The contemporary Democratic Party is more closely aligned with the early years of the Republican Party. Anyway, I thought that the followers of this thread would enjoy the following blog discussing on the Republican Party's historical realignment:

The parties have swapped. First The New Deal and then The Civil Rights movement. the push to end slavery was a liberal human rights movement that destroyed the Southern economy for the sake of justice. And they deserved it.
