(18,470 posts)4. He apparently did so in Dubuque too
Al Capone apparently liked Dubuque (about 180 miles west of Chicago) as a place to stay when things got too hot in Chicago.
He would usually stay at the Hotel Julien Dubuque and would take over the 8th floor when staying in town. Capone would hide his vehicles in underground garages to conceal his presence in Dubuque. There are even stories that he owned the hotel for a time.
The hotel was restored a couple years ago. There's a "Capone Suite" on the second floor of the hotel that he would sometimes use, especially a bank vault that he could use to hide.
