my poor old man.

damn do i hate this part. atm, my buddy, biff, has a raging bladder infection, the symptoms of which i took for his age setting in.
he’ll b 13 soon. he’s been having trouble getting around for the last few mos. when he started having accidents, i figured that was the reason. he’s always been good that way.
then sunday night he started making little bloody puddles and pacing around the house.
got him to the vet, needed fluids, on ab’s, feeling better, but…
he was due for sr wellness bloodwork, so we did the panel.
his liver numbers r through the roof. doc wanted a couple more tests that they can do on the same sample. will get those results tomorrow.
when he goes for the follow up in 10 days, we’ll do an ultrasound, but doc is worried.
so am i. he’s had tumors removed already.

damn damn damn. he’s just been the best dog. tied for all time best dog i’ve had w my beloved puddy, a white boxer w selective hearing who was the nanny when my kids were small. i guess i have to give her to the edge, cuz her job sure was harder than this guy’s, even w his 5 yrs of service as a therapy dog. but he’s just been the goodest of good boys.

i’m not ready for this.

I hope your boy gets better but if not...I hope you will be beside him while he slips over the rainbow bridge. That is the last act of love - we take on their suffering so they don't have to anymore.

We've have outlived our share of dogs, and pay extra to have the vet come to our home and take care of all end of life needs. Seems to make everyone feel more comfortable and certainly for me. sympathies!

for her osteoarthritis, she has slowed down considerably and is guarding against me palpating the sore joints. She still manages our pre-dawn walks around the lake at the dog park with our dog-walking friends, but it is getting tougher. Coming upstairs is increasingly harder but she still manages.

How hard it is to have them age faster than we do, but we treasure every day.

almost every dog i’ve had has made it to a ripe old age.
he rly hates the stairs. he’s a bully, so he’s top heavy. going down is rly awkward. i just put carpet runners on the stairs for him. he’s got nails like bearclaws that easily get long enough to get in the way. he’s gotten better about letting me take care of them tho. (i gave up on the ‘pet’ tools. just use my dremel. much faster.)

le sigh. i’m already grieving the happy go lucky young fella he was. i always do this. i just hate it.

yeah, y do we? i have to say, tho, that they’ve been worth the trouble and the tears.
1 reason i have had more than 1 at a time since i’ve had my own place. i have 2 other dogs to lick sway my tears when the day comes.

They say dogs can read our emotions and you want him to feel hope through your hope. Our son's dog at 16 was diagnosed with kidney disease. We all pitched in and researched like crazy what kind of diet is best and how to help her in numerous ways. She wound up having to be euthanized 10 months later when she was 17.5 years old. She had a lot of great days during that time and some days not so great. But over all her life quality was good until the end. And when the time came it wasn't because of her kidneys, it was her joints.

Sending love and light to your pup.

If he can be cured of his current situation and live pain free, I will be so happy for you both.

But that isn't always the way it ends up.

We have loved and cared for them and at some point, it's time to let them go so they no longer suffer.

It's tough, I know. My heart goes out to you and Biff.
