Book suggestions for reading to my grandson's kindergarten/1st grade class.

I think they are not too outdated.

5. Micawber By John Lithgow

It's a great book - and the poetry....so sophisticated. And yet perfect for kids.

My daughter was a big fan!

He has two others -well worth reading: The Remarkable Farkle McBride
and
Marsupial Sue

6. Do Baby Bears Sit in Chairs?

I had this book years ago for my son, loaned it and lost it, and have never seen another copy.

A number of rhyming questions a la 'Do baby bears...?' Each one to be answered with a loud NO!!

Most appropriate for kids who love to say, yell no.

12. Maybe Harold and the Purple Crayon?

My son adored this and years later grabbed the copy I found at a thrift store.

He loved the color red, so we re-did the story with red.

Once you get the pattern down - drawing a colored line where ever you want to go - you and the child/children can expand the story, devising ever more places to go with the crayon.

IIRC, the book is still in print. I believe I saw it in the children's section at B and Noble within the last few years.

BTW, he loved to draw a red line along as we went through the story. Ie, he did his own illustrations.
